Mobile Ice Cream Catering and Co-branding: a business perspective

Many in the industry of frozen desserts – especially independent operators – Not only fight with a seasonal cycle, but the management of the growth potential inherent in its current operation and structure of this growth. For example, if a trip Business booming retail market in an attempt to wholesale and vertical, or if the franchise is going to be a better opportunity? If diversification in all segments market, increase product range to another group of foods such as hot dogs, sandwiches or barbecue? If you co-brand? Catering industry would be more moving more sense?
If you answered "yes" to one of these questions, then the next question should be: "What I upgrade to do this kind of growth? "On the corporate structure, I will not say whether or not you should be an LLC or a" C Corporation "- I think everything is already in place – no longer whether or not separate Strategic Business Units (SBU). A UDF can be a separate legal entity (Corporation or LLC) or a subsidiary His one hundred percent entity is.
After SBU separate the different aspects of your business allows you to track profit and loss much easier, and allocate funding and budget more effectively. You can also try different marketing or sales techniques in a SBU without affecting the other too seriously – especially if your brand is different.

Create a wireless SBU food.
Suppose you are "ABC cream store ice" which is an operating company fixed-base retail. If you create a UDF that is "ABC Ice Cream Restaurant", you can follow the P & catering arm of your company to identify best marketing techniques, etc, without affecting the sales of the store – unless you expect and want. While everyone in business to make money, you can choose to make your mobile food service as a cost center rather than a profit center that allows you to work on the basis of profitability, even at a loss as part of a strategic marketing plan. The returns should be reduced to another business unit – and can be very lucrative. For example, suppose you had the opportunity to place a basket ice cream at the State Fair. In general, there is a participation fee, and together with staff costs to run the basket that could be significant. To increase visibility and the traffic is supposed to sell their product at a cost and at the same time giving each customer a $ "1 off" coupon for their next purchase from your store retail. This means that, in general, you have lost money for the event. However, from a marketing perspective / conversion, you would be able to say immediately by the number of vouchers redeemed the effectiveness of the event was for you, while you will see a significant increase in traffic in his store – a product to appeal to your cart. The conversion of a client only once during an outdoor event with a loyal customer at your store can be useful for the mobile food SBU a cost-center instead trying to attract repeat business only in product quality and good will.
Alternatively if you have your mobile ice cream cart a profit center, you should be able to see a greater margin on sales by virtue of the fact that there is less overhead – no rental of premises, etc. You must, however, create a return Commissioner responsible for services in your store mobile food business in the same field.

Create a co-branded SBU
This is an opportunity that no otherwise, or something similar. For example, "ABC cream store ice" may offer burgers and sandwiches. Or you can open a shop selling coffee and cakes cakes (and of course, ABC ice cream!). Co-branding is not new in the early 90's, Miami Subs Grill, began selling ice cream in Baskin Robbins stores under – some say first co-brand in foodservice. Now, Miami Subs Grill is owned by Nathan (hot dogs) and co-brands with Kenny Rogers Roasters (chicken) and Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips (selling more than Baskin Robbins). Co-branding (or just award a contract in hand) gives the opportunity to smooth the seasonality of the ice cream business, if desired. You could offer additional products – or just working well together, although the season. You may not think that the barbecue and ice cream go hand in hand – but I was repeatedly asked to provide just that solution in a mobile food. After several product lines in a mobile environment also broadens opportunities for revenue growth – be able to respond to two lines of an event (for example, a state of life) or more events with different products simultaneously.

Go vertical
Selling to local hotels, restaurants, and a high level to win a new source of revenue, and even create a UDF for "Ice Cream Mfrs ABC 'Will allow you to directly control the P & L. In terms of mobile catering and marketing, wholesale offers new possibilities. For example, having an ice cream truck with your brand or logo on it, but used by the restaurant or hotel in an event is a validator for quality product. You can also rent your basket for their wholesale customers or even work some of their events for them a source of additional income. On the flip side of marketing, then can say "We provide the luxury ice cream on Main Street" in their marketing materials.

Franchises
The creation of a franchise is almost certainly the way to create a separate business unit. From this you can clearly see the P & L and monitoring activities franchisees. From the perspective of mobile kitchen, you may choose to provide its franchisees with a car, or a set of guidelines to buy their own. Since the franchise has to do with consistent brand look-and-feel is in their interest to work directly with a company Purchase consistency. The disadvantage of franchising to restore you do not have mobile control over how it presents its brand franchise with the public.
